In the latest Webometrics ranking results (January 2023 version), the University of Guilan was among the top ten universities of the Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology.

 In this ranking, the University of Guilan is ranked 1234 among more than 31,000 global institutions, 344th in Asia, and 17th among 457 Iranian institutions. In this ranking, the University of Guilan also managed to grow 107 places in the world and two places in its country compared to the second half of last year.

 The results of this ranking are published based on indicators such as the number of highly cited articles, the number of references to researchers' articles in the Google Scholar database, and the number of received links. The Webometrics ranking system started its research in 2004 and every six months (July and January), more than 30,000 educational, research, and academic institutions in webometrics (50% weight) and research (50% weight) dimensions are evaluated and ranked.

 Among the goals of this ranking is to improve the quality of research among researchers in universities and higher education institutions and to encourage universities and higher education institutions to produce and publish their activities in the form of electronic content, in order to improve the general accessibility of the society.
