The fourth anniversary of "International Women in Mathematics Day" was held at the Faculty of Mathematical Sciences, University of Guilan. In this ceremony, Dr. Faezeh Toutounian, a faculty member of Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, and Dr. Marzieh Shams Yousefi, a faculty member of the University of Guilan, gave a speech about the International Year of Basic Sciences and the whys and wherefores of Women in Mathematics Day and its history, respectively. Appreciation of the efforts made by the women at the Faculty of Mathematical Sciences, presentation of the student curriculum and naming of the computer center of the faculty were other programs of the event. In this ceremony, several math teachers of the province were also present.

It is worth mentioning that at the 18th International Congress of Mathematicians in August 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the Women's Committee of the Iranian Mathematical Society proposed designating Professor Maryam Mirzakhani's birthday as "Women in Mathematics" day. Accordingly, with the approval of the majority of the attendees, May 12 (coinciding with Iranian month Ordibehest 22) was chosen by the International Mathematical Union as the International Women in Mathematics Day.

Hereafter, the International Women in Mathematics Day coinciding with the birthday of Professor Maryam Mirzakhani is celebrated annually worldwide. The purpose of the day is to inspire women around the world to celebrate their achievements in mathematics so that they can create a positive, enjoyable and inclusive work environment.
