In 2022, the Shanghai Ranking System published the subject rankings of the world's top universities. In this ranking, 1,800 universities were ranked out of 5,000 observed universities. The University of Guilan was ranked 301-400 among the top 400 universities in the world and the top 16 universities in Iran. Shanghai ranking system in 2022 has been done in 54 disciplines and in the form of 5 general areas including engineering (22 disciplines), basic sciences (8 disciplines), life sciences (4 fields), medical sciences (6 disciplines) and social sciences (14 disciplines). It is worthwhile to mention that only universities with the minimum number of scientific productions during the period 2016-2020 on the Web of Science database can be evaluated in these areas.
